I got this midi dress from Mango about a month ago. It’s so comfortable and one I will recommend if you are into midi dresses and comfortable ones that are also transitional. I have selected a few of my favourite ones from mango that you can work from home with. What I love the most about these dresses is that you can switch up the styling if you are going into work with a pair of knee-high boots during the winter or ankle boots with tights. You can also dress them up with pointy heels for a day out (when we can move around of course). At the same time, they are chic and comfortable to wear as a work from home outfit whilst snuggled with your faux fur home boots.

Dress code tips for men’s Christmas party https://uostyling.com/dress-code-tips-for-mens-christmas-party/ Thu, 05 Dec 2019 22:52:53 +0000 https://uostyling.com/?p=432

It’s always important to know how to nail the dress code for that Christmas party and I have some simple tips to help the gents.

Formal suit for Christmas party

The Formal Christmas Party

This is straightforward but to kick it off you will need a tuxedo. Complimented by a dress shirt, bowtie, dress shoes and an optional waistcoat.  You can add an accessory with a pocket square or lapel pin, and you are good to go.

Shop the look:

  1. Tuxedo Jacket
  2. Trousers
  3. White shirt
  4. Bow tie
  5. Shoes

The Cocktail Christmas Party

This is a step down from a tuxedo or a three-piece suit. A nicely tailored suit with a shirt and tie should do the trick. Add a nice pair of dress shoes. You can also wear other darker colours e.g. navy, dark grey.

Shop the look:

    1. Blazer
    2. White shirt
    3. Tie
    4. Trousers

The Business Casual Christmas Party

This is a little bit more laid back with the freedom to throw on a pair of chinos, corduroy or jeans matched with a clean white shirt or turtleneck, dress shoes and nicely fitted blazer. You can mix and match with print here and add a pocket square if you want.  Remember, you don’t want to look like you are dressed for a typical day at the office.

Shop the look:

  1. Roll neck jumper
  2. Jacquard blazer
  3. Trousers
Casual Christmas party outfit for men

Casual Christmas Party

This casual dress code gives you the most freedom to relax and you can stick to a laid back look styled with a pair of jeans, t-shirt or jumper. Layered up with a leather jacket and a pair of Chelsea boots to finish.

Shop the look:

  1. High neck jumper
  2. Leather jacket
  3. Black denim

Yours Truly https://uostyling.com/yours-truly/ Sat, 28 Sep 2019 10:40:59 +0000 https://uostyling.com/?p=352

My name is Uche, founder of UO Styling.  UO Styling is a Personal Image and Fashion Styling Service that specialises in enabling men and women in maintaining a positive image of themselves and looking great whatever the occasion. It’s also about ‘Holistic Styling’ because I believe every outfit you put on speak ‘WORDS’ that should reflect the confident person on the inside. I support positive lifestyle activities and see styling and fashion as an extension of a healthy lifestyle. Yes, it is the perfect union and is inspired by my career journey as a Paediatric nurse and a Public health lead.

I remember one day, lying down on my sofa and meditating, (I simply block out noise during these special ‘me’ moments) and the idea of entwining health and fashion came up.   I thought “Uche, it will be a great idea to share some of your health knowledge with people on your social media platforms, the link between health, healthy body image and body confidence. It all starts from within, so why not act as a resource point for people by raising awareness on how they can take ownership for their health and wellbeing”  In other words, promoting good mental health and wellness from the inside which transcends on the outside, presenting a confident happy client. Bringing to life the saying – ‘Self-confidence is the best outfit’

So here we have it.  This debut is titled ‘Yours Truly: UO Styling’. As I write this sitting on my sofa with a cup of coffee and fresh baked banana bread, I must say that I am feeling very refreshed after a nice short reboot girl summer. That’s my twist on the ‘hot girl summer’ meme.  For those of you who were late like me, to catch on the popular phrase, it’s a call to live your most confident and unapologetic life. Basically, loving who you are, doing what you want without caring what others think. I love it.

Ok back to the subject. It took months of umming and ahing. Why? Because after months of planning I suddenly went into panic mode as a whole load of questions went through my head. Will people read or find this useful?  Will you have the time? Why do you think people give a hoot about whether you are drinking coffee with banana bread? Thankfully, that quiet voice in my head reminded me of one of my favourite quotes. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers it- Nelson Mandela.

One thing about this communication avenue is that it’s a safe space to write about areas that are important to me and in turn UO Styling as a brand.  I will be sharing insights on all things fashion, health & wellbeing and style. So, if you are looking to get some styling inspiration, head over to the style talks section. You may need to take your wardrobe up a notch from what you will learn. If you want to understand the current trends and how to incorporate them into your style,   then look at the fashion inspirations. Then again you might just want some healthy living tips around holistic health and wellness, then head over to the health and wellness section for inspiration.

Body Image, Holistic Health and Wellness https://uostyling.com/body-image-holistic-health-and-wellness/ Sat, 28 Sep 2019 10:23:24 +0000 https://uostyling.com/?p=348

When you look in the mirror what do you see and more importantly, do you like what you see?  If your answer was yes, then kudos to you! You are one of the very few people in our world today, who possess a healthy body image of themselves; one who is comfortable in their skin and their appearance.

We live in a world driven by social media and unfortunately it continues to play an increasing active role in influencing our views, belief and acceptance of our bodies which in turn affects our wellbeing.

A positive body image starts from within. Over the years Psychologists have addressed and established that there is a link between what we wear and our emotions.  How we feel and see ourselves, affects the presentation of self.

Over the years, numerous studies have shown that individuals who have low self-esteem or a negative body image of themselves are more likely for instance, to wear black (to feel invisible), baggy clothes (to cover themselves up). On the flip-side, individuals who are happy and positive will gravitate towards bright and happy colours, to match their positive mood.

In a world where presentation of self is entwined in almost every aspect of life, developing and nurturing a positive body image is paramount. It is pertinent to our holistic health and wellbeing and the key to helping us look after it well.

Holistic health and wellbeing is an approach to life, one that focuses on the connection between mind, body and spirit.   There are five aspects of holistic health and wellbeing – Physical, emotional, social, spiritual and mental – all these influence, one way or another how we present ourselves to the wider world.

Over the course of time and in the follow-up newsletters, we will take a closer look at holistic health and wellbeing, dissecting each element in greater detail.

In the meantime, here are five things you can start doing  now to help you develop or improve a positive body image; which stems from self-acceptance and love.

  • Practice positive self -talk

Studies have shown that during the course of the day, we talk to ourselves more than anyone else. The question therefore is, what are you saying to yourself? Turn all that negative talks about self into positivity.

  • Appreciate your body

Celebrate and appreciate all that your body can do for you; thinking, dancing, running, swimming; the lot.  To have a healthy body is more important than having an Instagram defined perfection, which in reality is not attainable!  Celebrate you!

  • Keep a list

Keep a list of all the things you like about yourself. Your list should be holistic, that is include, mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and social.  This will give you a true picture of you as a whole and not narrowed down to sections or body parts.

  • Surround yourself with Positivity

Create a positive environment. Surround yourself with positive people and things that make you happy. A positive environment cultivates positive thoughts and a happy heart.

  • Don’t believe the hype

When it comes to body image, do not believe all you see and read on social media.  No one is perfect. If this were true, then we would all look the same.  Perfection is relative to the individual.  What is perfect for one individual will not be perfect for the next. We all cannot be 6ft tall, with blue eyes. Some of us are exquisite being 5ft tall and curvaceous like the figure 8.

A positive body image should flow from self-acceptance and love.

The Summer Wedding Guest Edit for Her: What to Wear https://uostyling.com/the-summer-wedding-guest-edit-for-her-what-to-wear/ Mon, 22 Jul 2019 14:14:47 +0000 http://uostyling.com/?p=240

So, summer wedding season is here again. I love wedding season. Some of us see it as an excuse to dress up whilst most of us are faced with the dreaded question, ‘what do I wear?’ which often results in panic mode. You are probably thinking of how to stick to the no white rule. How to choose the right outfit that represents your personal style and is also elegant yet comfortable without upstaging the bride. Oh gosh and what if there is a theme, dress or colour code?  Well I am here to lend a helping hand and I have sourced out a wide range of styles for you. You are likely to find one that meets your needs.

Red Cold Shoulder Poppy Dress - £48

Wedding season fashion
Wedding guest dress idea

I really love the feminine, chic, elegant finish of this cold shoulder dress. It also has a romantic touch to it with fits the occasion. If you are one that loves defining shoulders, then this dress is for you. It is nicely sculpted to flatter your silhouette with a lovely bardot neckline. The straps on the dress come in handy to hide your bra straps if you are not wearing a strapless bra.

Style Tip:

Add a cute pair of black open toe heeled sandals and a black clutch bag. Minimal styling required to finish of this look as the dress is already busy. Let it be the centre of attention. Finish off with a small pair of black drop earrings. You can add a black stone bracelet.

Pastel Chiffon Ruffled Dress - £95

I just adore this dress from True Decadence available online from Harvey Nichols. If you will rather opt for a long free style dress that is not clingy, then this wavy ruffle high neck pastel coloured dress may be for you. The high neck makes the dress so elegant. However, if pastel is not for you as it may not be within your colour palette, I will suggest you check out the rest of their collection. You are likely to find something else that you will love.

Style Tip:

These colours go so well with silver so definitely style with silver or diamante open toe heels and small, cute drop-down diamante earrings and bracelet. For a bit more of a statement look add a coloured purse from one of the pastel colours on the dress. Lilac or light blue will do.

The scuba bardot dress - £99

Here’s another bardot neckline dress for you. The colour yellow signifies, joy, happiness.  Definitely an ideal colour for a summer wedding. As I mentioned earlier if you love to show a little bit of the shoulders then this is for you. I love how glamorous this dress looks and the visible zip just gives it a bit of an edge. The length of the dress will also be perfect for the tall ladies as although it’s a midi dress it will sit below the knee for the average tall lady.

Style Tip:

The model in the picture has been styled with silver heels, I will opt for gold instead as it looks amazing with yellow, match with a gold purse. The colour stands out already and any other additional colours should compliment the dress. If you want to take your style up a notch, then match with white open toe heeled sandals and a cute white purse or multicoloured purse with visible white on it. There are so much options to play around with when styling this dress. You also have the option to wear a statement gold neckless if you want.

Curved Anthea dress - £68

Chi Chi Curve Anthea Dress - Summer wedding guest dress

Chi Chi clothing is one of the brands that ticks all the boxes for me with their sophisticated affordable dresses available in a wide variety of sizes including a tall range.  This elegant, high neck, A-line midi dress will be ideal for someone looking to wear something non clingy to the body yet remain chic and elegant. A-line dresses are so versatile because they suit most shapes.

Style Tip:

Blue goes amazing well with silver or diamante. So, match with a cute pair of over the top silver or diamante sandals. The one the model is wearing is perfect. Add a midi diamante purse with drop diamante earrings and bracelet. As the dress is plain and a neutral colour you have the freedom to play around with accessories so explore your options.

You have got to love florals and prints. This dress is also available in smaller sizes separate from the ‘curve range’. They are so on trend with this gorgeous maxi spring style dress. It has a lovely free flow to it and the colours are so joyous. Happy colours to suit a wedding,

Style Tip:

I will opt for a killer pair of gold sandals matched with a gold or white clutch. If you wanted to pay, more attention to detail with the gold I will refer rose gold coloured sandals and a rose gold statement earing.

If you are among the women who aren’t big on dresses and want to stick to trousers, then I have the thing for you: Jumpsuits. They have been on trend for a long while, so you are spoilt for choice with options. I love the high-neck lace finish to this one.

Style Tip:

All you need to complete this look are silver heeled sandals, a silver purse and silver jewellery. No necklace needed as it’s got the beautiful high neck lace at the top.

Another chic jumpsuit suit that grabbed my attention is this. I love the culotte style look. It’s a statement on and one that will be attention grabbing due to its unique one back elegant style.

Style Tip:

My preference will be to style this with silver heeled sandals, a simple silver bracelet and statement diamante drop silver earrings.

Luxe double-breasted covered button orange suit - £90

Orange suit wedding guest idea

Here’s another trouser option: A suit. The suit trend is still alive so if you feel like ditching the dresses, you sure can. The two main things I love about this suit is the orange colour and the double-breasted blazer. It has that sophisticated boss lady chic style appeal.

Style Tip:

The colour is very attention grabbing so all you need is a gold pair of heeled sandals, a gold pendant necklace and small drop-down earrings. I will prefer styling this without the white vest. If you want minimal cleavage a small safety pin can be applied to the blazer. However, the vest is another option. Add a bit more feminine touch to the look and colour block with a royal blue purse. It’s all in the little details.

Curve twist and drape front midi dress - £38

Loving the light cool blue colour on this beautiful twist style dress. I love the asymmetric top half of the dress it adds a little bit of weight to the bottom half for someone who is smaller waist down creating a nice balance to the overall silhouette.

Style Tip:

As the dress is quite simple you can take the styling up a notch with a bold statement multi coloured style necklace with some silver or diamante on it. Preferably something that includes the colour of the dress. Trust me these small attention to detail make a huge difference. Small stud earrings are fine. Match with silver sandals and a silver purse.

Puff Sleeve Midi Dress - £69

Puff sleeve dress for summer wedding guest

This burnt orange midi dress has got to my favourite dress from the 10 outfits. The statement puff sleeves give a feminine classy look to the dress. It’s nicely tailored to accentuate your silhouette. If you don’t mind showing a little flesh, then you are going to love the back and don’t worry the dress has hidden bust cups so it’s also bra friendly.

Style Tip:

I will keep the dress as the centre of attention so a pair of gold sandals or pointy shoes, gold statement earrings and a blue purse to add some colour blocking to the look. See moodboard below of a similar dress from Missguided that I have styled. An option if you will rather not show your back.

Final Verdict:

I hope you find these looks useful. I have selected affordable brands that have great wedding guest style options, but this is not an exhaustive list as there are a lot more stores with great wedding guest outfits so do explore. The brands here had gorgeous outfits available, but I can’t put them all so if you want to see more options check out their individual collections, trust me you will be spoilt for choice.
